What is the Communicate8 Assessment?

The Communicate8 Early Identification Tool is designed to help classroom teachers, teaching assistants and SENCOs carry out a structured, reliable assessment of a child's speech, language and communication needs, without waiting for a specialist referral.

Working through eight key strands of communication development, the tool guides you to a clear outcome: whether a child needs intervention, should be monitored in class, or is developing as expected. Every assessment produces a professionally formatted PDF report you can share with parents, inclusion teams or outside agencies, generated entirely on your device, so no personal data ever leaves your school.

Consistency across schools, Trusts and local areas

A platform such as Communicate8 promotes shared language amongst practitioners within schools, across a Trust, and throughout local area schools by creating a consistent framework, vocabulary and understanding around children's speech, language and communication needs (SLCN). When schools use the same terminology, assessment pathways and areas of development, staff are able to discuss pupils' strengths, needs and support strategies with greater clarity and confidence.

This consistency is particularly valuable within a Trust, where schools often work collaboratively, share expertise and develop common approaches to inclusion and school improvement. It also supports local area schools to work more effectively together, strengthening partnerships between teachers, teaching assistants, SENCOs, therapists and external professionals.

A shared language reduces variation in practice, supports smoother transitions between settings and ensures information about pupils can be understood and transferred consistently. By aligning approaches across Trusts and local communities, schools can build capacity, share resources and develop a more equitable and connected system so that children receive consistent support regardless of which school they attend.

What schools are saying
This tool has completely changed the way we identify and support children with speech and language needs. It is clear, quick to use and the PDF report is exactly what we needed to share with parents and outside agencies.

We trialled Communicate8 with three year groups and the feedback from staff was overwhelmingly positive. The eight strand framework gives a really structured way to look at a child's needs without waiting for a specialist.

The privacy aspect really impressed us. Nothing is stored or sent anywhere and the report is generated instantly on screen. That is exactly what schools need when working with sensitive pupil information.

Communicate8 has given our team a shared language and a consistent approach across the whole school. That consistency is something we have struggled to achieve with other tools.
